Bleeding Hearts False Sunflower

Striking dark foliage and flowers make this long-blooming nativar an ideal selection for creating contrast in perennial borders and cutting gardens. 'Bleeding Hearts' emerges in the spring with nearly black sturdy upright stems that age to dark purple, with glossy green and smokey-purple foliage. The first Heliposis without any yellow, flowers open scarlet-red and mature to shades of orange and aged-bronze. Adaptable to a range of soils, it grows naturally in heavy clay and shallow poor soils with a high pH and forms showy colonies. Introduced by the North Dakota State University.
